Why is the text empty?

The PDF is probably a scan, so its pages are pictures with no text in them.

Does it keep the layout?

It keeps lines and pages in order. Columns, tables and fonts are not kept.

Is my PDF uploaded?

No. The text is read in your browser with the open-source pdf.js library.
